It isn’t rocket science but it’s amazing how many owners ignore this habit that has a triple benefit.
Say Thank You.
To your clients at the end of a job, or in the middle or even the beginning. Enthusiasm makes the journey fun. You has some responsibility for making it pleasant so don’t forget this.
To the person that referred you. He’/she went out of their way to make the introduction and set you up for success. They put their reputation on the line for you, so not only do you owe it to them to follow up, be your own brilliant self and do the job if and when you get it, but be sure to thank them for their thinking of you, for their time and their effort.
To the people who do the job with you. You probably couldn’t do what you do half as well without them. Appreciation is the one things that turns up in employee survey after survey. It trumps salary and position- just the desire to be seen and appreciated.
Getting referrals adds a bit of magic to your business. It almost always comes as a nice surprise because someone thought enough of you do make the referral AND you have the possibility of a new customer – possibly a great one.
Saying thank you is a little like following up. Research shows that 80% of leads are not followed up. I don’t know if saying thank you has been measured, but I do know that appreciation has a lasting, positive effect on everyone that experiences it.
